WHAT WE DO.
Minerva encourages Colleges and Universities to incorporate Safety Management Education into core curricula in three main ways:
1.By holding an annual Summer Institute and mini institutes.
The Summer Institute introduces professors, teachers, and lecturers to the principles of Safety Health and Environmental management and how to teach them.
The Institute is an intensive 2-day training program consisting of presentations, case studies and workshops.
There are currently two training tracks, one for engineering staff and one for business faculty. The engineering track focuses on process safety management and loss control. The business track is directed to loss control management as a strategy for improved corporate performance. With proper funding, Minverva can expand the Summer Institute to include other teaching faculties in Canadian universities and colleges. One day mini Institutes can also be organized by Minerva at a University.
2. By Preparing Case Studies
Each year Minerva awards modest grants to universities and organizations for research and documentation of company case studies. We seek studies of organizations that, through the application of SHE management have advanced corporate effectiveness in one or more of the following areas:
- Improved productivity and profitability
- Reduced lost time and other serious injuries
- Improved staff morale, team effort and labour management relations.
Completed Case Studies are available free of charge for use in SHE management training.
3.By working with Partners
Minerva works through partnerships with many organizations that donate volunteer staff and provide funding for infrastructure and specific projects. For example, Minerva is a Global Partner with the National Safety Council and its R.W. Campbell award which recognizes one organization in the world for their excellence in Safety, Health and Environmental management.
